award winning composer

Ted Mann is a multi-instrumentalist and an award-winning composer who was named New Hampshire Disctinguished Composer of the Year in 2003 with his piece, “Your Tears are not forgotten”.

He has performed in venues from Boston to New York City and across the country as a soloist and with a variety of groups including the Vivaldi Traveling Circus Orchestra of Manhattan and the Nashua Chamber Symphony.

As a lutenist and vihuelist he has performed as a guest artist with the Boston-based Early Music ensemble “Capella Alamire.” Ted’s latest recordings appear on such labels as Harp of David and Scholastic, Inc.

His work touches on renaissance styles and is fused with electro acoustic experimentation. It can be described as genuine and transcendental. It spans from dense intellectualism to ethereal spirituality. His work is a display the firm grasp he has on functional theory of harmony and counterpoint. His work appeals to the mind and the heart.

He was a student of Joe Maneri who studied with Josef Schmid Schoenberg’s Theory of Harmony contributed to the foundation of his compositional style and also to his teaching style. His works exhibit his direct lineage to the second Viennese school and the Schoenberg method for Theory of Harmony.

From Boston to New York City and across the country, Ted has performed as a soloist, and with a variety of chamber groups. He’s appeared on television and radio. His work has been performed internationally at world renowned performance halls, including Carnegie Hall.

As a professor at Keene State College in New Hampshire, Ted teaches courses in the history of rock and roll, avant rock, and music theory and counterpoint. He leads classes and private instruction in guitar and lute, and he coaches guitar ensembles.

He is currently working on (XYZ).

Musicians and ensembles from as far away as South Korea and Russia have commissioned Mr. Mann to develop scores for them. He writes for guitar, violin, mandolin, cello, piano and many other instruments, stretching from classical treatments, folk, contemporary, to world music.
